here's a pic of a magnificent spidy i just found. i dont no its scientific name but i think its common name is woodlouse spider? there quite common on our farm . this one has nearly a 2 cm body, and looks gravid too me . they can give a painfull bite too. http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/aa287/caffloss/DSCF1128.jpg

Oh nice, Ive yet to find one of these-the only spiders that will eat a woodlouse!
I believe they have offset chelicerae, rather like the bum end of an Earwig.
Scientific name Dysdera crocata, nice spider!

i have never seen them anywhere else ( maybe there a localised spider???) there a fantastic spider , the chelicerae are offset indeed they can open real wide, and they have long fangs to deal with there chosen prey. :jimlad:

thanks for posting that distribution map, its never been recorded where i am before by the look of it , nearest area is about 10 - 15 mile away

i used to find 2 sp of dysdera here in cornwall years ago (10) but now i cant find them anywhere, lovely wee spiders.
when i used to keep 100 s of labidognatha i found that amaurobius and tegenaria and steatoda would be partial to the odd wood louse

Thanks for that John, tho I'm not sure if it means they are found in my area(Darlington)
Are the big grey squares areas where they have been found?
