What species is he? True spider males can get enlarged embolus about 1-2 molts before they get mature accually.
Hartley is a fishing spider, dunno his scientific name I am ashamed to say

Mary I am sure sp. Oyapok and sp. Roura are closely related (May be the same sp.) but the markings of the carapce lead me to say your male more resembels Ancylometes sp. Oyapok because of the pattern on the carapace.
Good luck finding him a mate
I have a female here too Chris......

I suppose it might be a bit of a shock to see if you are not expecting it, if the female is receptive she scrunches up and the male ties her up with webbing before he mates.

Oh i've seen that! Isn't that so she doesn't eat him? lol and he can get to where he needs to get without having to worry about her getting him
Thanks Simon.
Thats a bit extreme Phil lol.
Ah, now I know, I think lol. Thanks Chris.
No, I keep the substrate wet.

Great spiders. Back in Minnesota (thats where I gre up) u come across really large fishers ...3-4 inches. I hope I can find one next time Im back home.
He has to be that big now at least, he has lovely silver feet on his front legs, will have to get him in a pot to show him off, you can't appreciate his beauty at the moment.
We just rehoused Hartley and Mrs Hartley, the first pic is Hartley in all his glory, handsome chap that he is, then Mrs Hartley and a pic of one of the identical set ups.
