Our house is full of the blessed things, they eat all the tegenaria in the garage, I hate them, if it were me it would be squashed, no reprieve.

My thoughts exactly John, Sonny the best way to look after this species is to let them loose in the house as the like being in dark areas like behind bookshelves.

This species is one of the ones that dont have venom. Pretty cool! :D (If it is P. phalangioides)

I've looked it up on the internet and it says its a cellar spider, dont know if this is true but I will not squish it, I promised Sonny I wouldn't.
He has put it in a dark place behind his stereo in his bedroom.
Many thanks for helping him. J x

You may want to put a sheet of slanted carboard in there for her to hang on.
And I've just had a good look at the picture, its a very good shot!

Jay Im afriad I got Sonny a bit worried over this, but it is a venomous species, as most spiders are, so was just being cautious. Ya never know with spiders.

Err all the venom stories about pholcus are massively over exaggerated to say the least

I just took the info from an official site Gigus. I wasa just trying to explain to sonny that jusrt cos a spider is venomous doesnt mean its nasty, and the venom=poison. But poison is a bad word and venom les so.

Larry, they are eating all the tegenaria in the garage, they are awful spiders, sqish fodder. I must admit we had never seen any till we came down here to live, we took a pair to natural history museum and were told they are a mediteranian sp that is slowly moving north, so it has got to yorkshire already.

Can I just add a bit more to this?
I personally dont know what it is about them, I love T's as they ARE fluffy and really cute but I just cant get my head around those short legged fat bulbous abdoman spids with shiney legs, but saying that I find scorps and pede's really interesting. I love all bugs ants are fabulas, I just adore ants and as for standard bugs like beetles I think they are fabulas and I would have loads of them, but spiders, well, I just cant get my head around them, true spiders are foul.:unhappy: :O_o:

You know theres a T that lives in a cave, is small blind and looks like a true! Saw it on a documentary somewhere!
I dont think Ts are fluffy or cute, just interesting. To me a T is just a big spider!(with somehwhat different anatomy)
Its funny how we have different views on things, makes things interesting.

Will these still eat while they are carrying a sac then?

actually Pholcus phalangoides is a british spider, which one do you have?
"
There are three genera of this family found in NW-Europe: Pholcus phalangioides (common), Holocnemus pluchei and Psilochorus simoni (rare)."

i think they are Pholcus phalangoides. my mistake i thought they were american, anyway they still kill Teganaria and other spiders and considering they dont have a great appearence i dont like them

oh there are birds out there, cute fluffy ones that also eat spiders,Tegenaria included. and ugliness is in the foot of the squisher. i would never kill something because it kills other animals or is ugly.

I use a fly swat Larry:biggrin:
When we moved to MK we took a pair of the daddylonglegs to The Natural History Museum on London, they are a Meditaranian sp that is colonising the UK.
