Nice pic!
When I was in Denmark afew years ago I found a very large gravid female of this species. She was about 2-2.5" in legspan. Her body was easy 1" in lenght... :)

Thanks. It was just a quick snap on a Canon Ixus as I just happened to see it wrapping prey when I was walking past :)
They can certainly get big, and there seems to be many more of them about here this year. Mind you it has been uncommonly warm.

LOL. We had a huge one last year with a massive web in between our wheelie bin and the wall of the house. I spotted it in the car headlamps when I was parking one night. It was a lighter colour than this one, but a lot bigger!
Where were you thinking of studying Gigus?

Still cant bring myself to look at that picture Mary BUT.... I did something really brave today, yup I took a close up of a, erm, sort of garden/house spider, you's lot will know what it is. But I am really pleased with myself cos I didnt freak out screaming when it bungy jumped from it hidey hole in the corner of the window.
I must admit when it hit the window sill & started to run I bashed it with a newspaper, sorry
