Thats foul & discusting, Sorry people but I just cant do '''''GARDEN SPIDERS'''' they really freak me out, fat, bulbous & yukly discusting. I can do any creepy crawly or bug, I love em all but not those things. They are mutants from planet zod. My skin is pimply & all my hairs have stood up just looking at the pic.

You'd die in my office Jay!

In Cardiff Bay they put in a barage, unfortunately that threw our local eco-system off balance and there was a massive fly poulation. So they released thousands of garden spiders to balance things out.

My office is jam packed full of them, they're all over the windows and in the roof. It's pretty common for them to pop down in front of your face while you're on the phone and every light fitting has webs in them!

Some folks have put in complaints but the building authorities won't kill them, they'll only take them out. The other day they collected 50 from one of the small offices!!!

I quite like them and have actually rescued a few from dehydration (due to the air conditioning).

I would just die, i'd rather be on the social than work like that lol.
I just dont know how anybody could like something like that.
I'm afraid to say the only meeting with one og thoses things would be with the bottom of my shoe.

Yeah, these are really gorgeous. Actually I was thinking of trying to set up a frame type thingy for one to build a web in. I remember reading somewhere about people doing this with orb weavers, basically just providing a wooden frame between two sheets of glass, letting them construct their web, and then removing the glass so in effect you have a freestanding web. Has anyone had any experience with this?

Also, what sort of lifespan do these have?

I managed to get a nephila once to spin a web in a picture frame suspended from the ceiling, you have to watch it for a while though, because half way through building it decided to wander off

I've also heard of people using those big plastic hula hoops for Nephila, although it's not something I fancy trying for myself...

We've got loads of spiders in our bathroom at the moment, a few of them are garden spiders, the others are just small things (dunno what species) but when I'm in the shower I've seen several mating attempts...I don't know what the family must think when they hear me saying "Go on my son!" from the bathroom in the morning!

I've also got a little one thats right above my bed, and because I have one of those high sleeper things it means the spider's suspended about 50cm above my face at night lol

LMAO. Yeah, I've been watching a pair of them going at it in my lounge this weekend. Don't worry... your not the only one who cheers them on...
